Sheffield-based comms provider ask4 has acquired internet and ICT provider W2.
The deal follows W2 - previously known as the Wired Workplace - going into administration. The company supplies broadband, Internet access, telephone services, data networking and other ICT applications and services to businesses in Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and the surrounding areas.
Its five strong staff will become part of the fast-expanding ask4 group which specialises in providing telecommunications services to the student accommodation sector and offers the fastest residential broadband package in the UK.
Jonathan Hudson, Chairman of ask4 Group, said: "We have bought W2 from the administrator as a going concern. W2 is a natural fit into our business subsidiary, ask4 Business. The acquisition brings new services to the table and a profitable client base. We wanted to make sure that a local company still supported the local client base. The opportunity to integrate W2 clients and services into our company is an exciting challenge."

'If you are worried about laying off engineers, why not re-deploy them in sales while the installations side picks up? You often find that the best dealers are former engineers who have a broad knowledge of the industry, who customers trust to give them sound advice and a solution that works for them.'
